As the completion of the 2014-2015 school year was celebrated this weekend, it also was a farewell to Wes Fehr and his family after 23 years of ministry at NBI/NBC.
Wes, along with Diane and their newborn Derek, joined the NBI staff in the fall of 1992 as an intern faculty member. Quickly becoming an integral part of the team, Wes became the Academic Dean soon after. He remained in that position until 2004 when he accepted the role of interim President after the resignation of long-time colleague and friend Mark Leppington. Wes dropped the ‘interim’ label a year and a half later in November 2005 and has led the college over the past decade.
NBI/NBC staff are asked to take on many roles and responsibilities. Wes taught primarily New Testament and leadership courses, administered and coached sports teams (hockey and soccer) and oversaw maintenance. Many changes occurred with Wes at the helm. He has overseen the dorm renovations, debt reduction, building and street naming, the Leppington Student Centre project, changed NBI to NBC and most recently the NBC Solar Project.
The Fehr household expanded over the years as well. Wes and Diane, along with Derek, welcomed Jeremy, Karalee and Taryn to the family. Both Derek and Jeremy attended NBC after graduating high school.
Diane also found a niche serving at NBI/NBC. She served as hostess, decorator, small group leader and mentor to many of the students on campus. No doubt, her baking skills will also be missed.
We are thankful and grateful for Wes’ ministry over the years as we know many students and staff were impacted for the Kingdom of God. It will be difficult to imagine the campus without the Fehrs but we trust that the Lord is guiding their steps.
