According to Nehemiah 9 the purpose of history is to learn form the past and how it can help shape our future. In this passage we can see Gods goodness but also how He handled the Israelite’s disobedience in the past. In seeing how God acted and helped them in hard times, it would help the Israelite’s to remember that God is in control. The reason it is brought up again in Nehemiah 9 is to show the Israelite’s to trust in God and to not make the same mistakes as those previous.

These are good points about the purpose of Nehemiah 9, I especially like what you said about learning from the past. The past truly does shape our future. In reading Nehemiah 9 I was also reminded of God’s continued faithfulness throughout the generations. When the Israelites looked back on their lives and on the lives of their ancestors they were reminded of the Lord’s provision for them.
