Nehemiah 9, is about Confession, Penitence, and Covenant Commitment from the people of Israel.
The purpose of Biblical History should encourage the individual to Praise, Confession and Petition.
It should encourage God’s people from repeating any mistakes and to seek righteousness and faithfulness in God.
The salvific History should point us to the goodness and faithfulness of God when we were not faithful to Him, just as it was for God’s people in the biblical times.
It is beautiful that scripture is inspired in such a way that it was for the people of that time in history and also helpful for us! The Israilites were in need of remembering where they came from and what God has done, so that they can continue to be faithful to Him and follow Him at their current time in Nehemiah 9. And we are just as much in need of the reminder as we seek righteousness and faithfulness to God. How blessed we are to have so much more history to reflect on Gods attributes even since the Exile.
You are the Lord, you alone have made heaven and the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them and the host of heaven worships you. (Nehemiah 9:6)
