Associate Pastor: Pastor of Small Groups and Discipleship
Focus:
The Associate Pastor works to build, communicate, and oversee a culture of discipleship at Summerland Baptist Church.
Description:
The Associate Pastor is a communicator, a shepherd, and an overseer. By investing in authentic relationships with the community, through creative and consistent communication, listening, collaboration, pastoral care, and by empowering leaders, the Associate Pastor intentionally crafts a culture of discipleship.
Responsibilities:
As part of our SBC team, you will direct the development and growth of discipleship within the congregation.
The Associate Pastor will:
30%: Develop and communicate a path of discipleship/belonging for the people of SBC.
30%: Disciple and oversee leaders and teams who run discipleship opportunities and programs.
20%: Support the Lead Ministry Pastor with pastoral care ministry: visitation, weddings, funerals, preaching, etc.
10%:* Oversee the media, language, and communication SBC uses and ensure it accurately expresses the culture.
10%*: Oversee the collaboration tools the SBC staff team uses.
* These areas are adjusted to suit the unique giftings of the Associate Pastor.
Accountability:
The Associate Pastor is directly accountable to the Lead Ministry Pastor who oversees the fulfillment of their job description and leads annual performance reviews. The Associate Pastor works in collaboration with all SBC staff.

Qualifications:
Passionate about discipleship.
Understands culture and how to build it.
Able to build connections with the Summerland community.
Shepherd’s heart.
Eagerness to learn and grow.
Creative communicator.
Proficient with online tools like Canva, Planning Center, Google Drive.
Experience working with and developing leaders.
Good collaborator.
Have or working towards a degree in pastoral ministry.
Support Baptist polity and theology.
Experience in conflict resolution.
