Turning Point Youth Centre (TPYC) is a faith-based youth centre which operates in Meadow Lake, SK. Our organisation provides a free, safe, and inclusive place for youth ages 13-18 and is in good standing with the community of Meadow Lake. TPYC is run by the Evangelical Free Church of Meadow Lake which is a CCCC Organization (https://www.cccc.org). A preferred applicant possesses knowledge of working with at-risk youth and the following professional competencies: communication, self-mastery, ability to work independently, knowledge of social media and flexibility. We require all employees to live a healthy lifestyle and they must affirm our statement of faith as outlined below.
Vision Statement
TPYC is committed to promoting and providing a safe place for our community’s youth to go- a place where they will have the opportunity to develop life skills, healthy connections with peers, have access to helpful resources, where they will be encouraged to grow into the person God intends them to and where they will be shown the love of Christ.
Workplace Culture
TPYC is Christian ministry. We strive to serve the youth of our community in a way that reflects Christ’s love and our organisational values; in the same way, we desire to love and serve our fellow workers. This is called a workplace ‘culture’: a set of shared values, beliefs, attitudes, and assumptions that people in a workplace share. These beliefs tend to guide our actions, which becomes the product of our workday. Christian ministry experiences can vary, but a common experience is stress or hardship. Our goal is to create a workplace culture that is healthy, resilient, and God-honouring to combat the stress that comes with ministry. We also strive to reduce unnecessary stressors. By recognizing that ministry can be difficult, and mitigating stress, we hope to create an environment that is just as enjoyable for staff as it is for our youth. In addition, by communicating our workplace values we can journey together towards a fulfilling experience for our staff and leadership.
Current Programming
Our goal is to provide a place where youth can spend their free time and grow in life skills; in addition we offer life skills training with classes such as basic mechanics, hygienics, carpentry, art, knitting, crocheting and cooking. We provide meals once a week and a snack table to keep the youth well fed. We have services such as a laundry room, shower, resource centre, clothing room and if needed, free counselling. Our drop-in area includes a pool table, foosball, video games, board games, crafts and computers. We also offer a Recreation Room which has dodgeball, soccer, floor hockey, ping pong, lawn games, movie nights, and ripsticks. Once a week we have Bible studies and various service projects.
Statement of Faith
TPYC affirms and upholds the EFCC statement of faith in word and deed. All articles of the statement of faith should be reviewed by employees, committee members, and volunteers. The aforementioned groups must sign an affirmation of faith.
